Description
Salesforce is seeking a Director of Global Space Planning to join our Real Estate & Workplace Services (REWS) team.
At Salesforce, our workplaces are a physical expression of our values and a celebrated culture driver that brings people together. In 2024, Salesforce rolled out a new hybrid work model and is now enjoying a resurgence of activity in its 100+ global office portfolio. We have moved away from tactical seat assignments to flexible seating, increased collaboration spaces, and activity-based working. This shift is working well for our employees, contractors and customers who use and enjoy our offices. However, it has required us to approach space planning with a different mentality, which requires staying closer than ever to our business units and thoroughly understanding their diverse space needs, while increasing our willingness to innovate, pilot, and integrate new programs, designs, furniture, and workplace technology into our spaces.
To further support our new approach, the Director of Global Space Planning will be responsible for the Global Space Planning Team (currently composed of ~10+ regionally-situated FTEs and contractors) and will also chair a newly-formed Global Space Planning Steering Committee within the broader REWS organization. This position will report to the VP of Global Workplace Strategic Initiatives and will work closely and collaboratively with partners across REWS and the broader company, using data to optimize space utilization throughout our portfolio, propose cross-functional solutions to space constraints and other challenges, and influence our overall space strategy. The ideal candidate is an experienced space planning professional, with a comprehensive understanding of the entire corporate real estate function and asset lifecycle.
Responsibilities Include:
Lead the Global Space Planning Team, unifying a distributed group of global and regional professionals.
Chair the newly-formed Global Space Planning Steering Committee within REWS, facilitating cross-functional collaboration among Space Planning, Workplace Services, Business Partnerships, Workplace Innovation, Occupancy Planning, Project Design and Delivery, and Technology Enablement & Data Insights (TEDI).
Work closely with business leaders and cross-functional partners like Employee Success and Business Technology.
Build a consistent global strategy for space planning that aligns with the company’s broader objectives and implement it regionally / site by site across the 100+ global office portfolio, while allowing local flexibility to adapt to regional needs, regulatory requirements, and cultural nuance.
Regularly review space usage data from multiple sources to understand how spaces are actually used and ensure that data is well maintained and governed, reported out to leaders and partners, and applied as needed. Monitor and ensure our spaces meet business needs and develop creative solutions to space deficiencies as needed. Evaluate, explore, and help implement technology that supports hybrid work.
Qualifications:
10+ years of experience with space planning in corporate real estate environments
5+ years people management experience, successfully leading a global or regional space planning team (or equivalent experience)
Degree or equivalent relevant experience required. Experience will be evaluated based on theValues & Behaviors for the role (e.g. extracurricular leadership roles, military experience, volunteer roles, work experience, etc.)
Strong experience with all aspects of space planning and related workplace data management, including CAFM tools and data visualization tools (such as Tableau)
Experience using quantitative approaches to deliver business insights and motivate change
Comprehensive understanding of the entire corporate real estate function and asset lifecycle
High attention to detail and expectation for accuracy from yourself and your team
Ability to innovate, navigate, and implement in an ambiguous and dynamic environment
