The Data Modeler role provides data model design oversight for all Salesforce products. The team collaborates with product owners, engineers, architects, and others to ensure Salesforce delivers top-notch data models and software, that is expected of the #1 AI CRM, Data and Agentforce Platform.

You'll shape the structure of Salesforce standard data models for “horizontal” applications (e.g. sales, service, marketing) as well as industry-specific applications. Work on traditional OLTP data models as well as the model of our modern Data Cloud platform. Responsibilities:

  • Provide expert data modeling design advice and reviews for all styles of data models (OLTP and analytical).

  • Collaborate with product and development teams to define data model requirements and drive consensus on unified data model designs that address overlapping requirements across multiple product teams.

  • Own data model designs and representing them to both internal and external stakeholders.

  • Mentor and enhance the data modeling design skills of our own team and all the teams we work with.

  • Leading and contributing to data model documentation and collateral.

  • Perform essential data model oversight tasks, such as ensuring that data model requests are properly documented and routed.

  • Continuously seek improvements in Salesforce's processes, methods, and tooling to enhance efficiency and effectiveness. Assist in adopting AI technologies to enhance and automate data modeling activities.

  • Supporting engineers through hands-on detailed design, development, testing and publishing of data models as needed.

Required Qualifications:

  • 6+ years (depending on level) of hands-on experience in data modeling and enterprise software design for relational (OLTP) and analytical systems

  • Strong understanding of data modeling principles and best practices, including canonical and semantic concepts

  • Ability to quickly grasp technological and business concepts

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience in effectively conveying technical and functional concepts to diverse audiences

  • Demonstrated experience in full software lifecycle delivery for enterprise software products or large-scale enterprise IT projects

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment characterized by short release cycles and iterative development methodologies

  • Comfortable in managing multiple projects/products concurrently.

  • Related technical degree required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience across a variety of business domains (e.g. sales, service, field service, marketing, commerce) and industries (e.g. communications, media, energy, utilities, financial services, health, manufacturing, consumer packaged goods, retail, non-profit, education, public sector, sustainability)

  • Strong, hands-on knowledge of SQL (or Salesforce SOQL) including performance tuning

  • Knowledge of modern, non-relational databases (e.g. columnar, graph, vector, NoSQL, streaming databases), data lakes, data warehouses, AI pipelines or similar. Experience with modern data stack technologies such as Apache Iceberg, Snowflake, MongoDB, Neo4j, Neptune, and similar.

  • Knowledge of Salesforce product and platform features, capabilities, and the best use of them including Data Cloud and Tableau

  • Experience with Agile development methodologies

  • Good understanding of enterprise architecture principles

  • Ability to serve as a trusted advisor to customers, with a deep curiosity to understand them, their motivations and needs, and how to approach ensuring their success

  • Experience with data modeling tools, processes, BI tools, reporting software and data analysis and data analytics
