Kim Tims felt like Salesforce was, well, everywhere. From conversations in the copy room to discussions at family gatherings, Kim kept hearing about the #1 AI CRM wherever she went. Then, an opportunity came up: as the Senior Project Manager at a healthcare company, she was tasked with a project within the Salesforce ecosystem — and she never looked back.

Kim knew she could maximize the opportunity if she dedicated herself to learning the technology, so she began attending local Dallas Trailblazer Community events. From there, she immersed herself in Salesforce learning on Trailhead and in her day-to-day job. In 2019, Kim felt ready to make a change.

As a single mom, she had spent almost 20 years at the same company; stability was what she needed during that phase of life. With her daughter off to college, Kim knew she was ready to take a leap — and she landed at Salesforce.

Now a Principal Technical Account Manager (TAM), Kim uses her decades of experience as a trusted advisor to healthcare clients, helping them achieve their business goals using Salesforce technologies.

What made you decide to apply for a role at Salesforce?

There were several factors that attracted me to Salesforce, but the company’s core values were one of the most important. As a previous Salesforce customer, I was impressed by their innovative platform and, more importantly, how they integrated equality into their everyday operations.

When I applied, I was at a point in my life where I wanted to make a significant change professionally after working with a company for nearly 20 years. With my daughter transitioning to college, I was ready to take a career risk. For the majority of my career, I was a project manager, and my last role gave me the exposure, education, and experience for my next role at my dream company — Salesforce. As a TAM, I’m able to leverage my transferable skills across communication, leadership, creativity, strategy, and problem-solving to help the customer realize the true value of Salesforce.

Build your future at Salesforce

What are you responsible for in your current role?

The TAM role at Salesforce is like the quarterback on a football team. Just like a quarterback is the main point of contact and leader on the field, the Technical Account Manager is the primary contact and leader for the customer’s success with Salesforce. Both roles require exceptional communication and the ability to form strong relationships, understand the team’s or customers’ goals, and deliver solutions to achieve those goals.

Additionally, just as a quarterback needs to collaborate with teammates and coaches to execute plays, as a TAM I work closely with internal and external collaborators to address customer needs effectively. I’m the main interface, making decisions, and taking ownership during critical moments to ensure success.

What learning and development opportunities does Salesforce offer?

I’ve had a multitude of learning and development opportunities to expand my knowledge of Salesforce technology, but I’ve also learned soft skills, like customer stakeholder management and presentation skills. Trailhead is an amazing resource . We also have online training courses to help pass Salesforce certifications, which has given me the opportunity to acquire not just certifications during my time here but also key information that enables me to support my customers.

What are you working on right now that excites and inspires you?

Right now, I’m working with my customers to help them identify technical debt and opportunities to optimize and secure their organization that helps improve their overall health. I’m inspired to help customers leverage new and existing Salesforce tools to proactively and reactively manage their organizations.

What sets Salesforce apart from other places you’ve worked?

What I value most about Salesforce is my team’s culture. My direct manager is amazing! She’s built an amazing team that always supports each other, and I’ve never worked with a team that’s so insightful and voluntarily offers to support each other.

What’s one thing you would want a candidate to know about what it’s like to work at Salesforce?

One thing I would want a candidate to know is the amazing volunteer time off (VTO)! Volunteering is a vital and fulfilling aspect of my personal values, exemplified by Salesforce’s offering of seven paid VTO days a year. I’m dedicated to promoting the significance of education, exposure, and experience — especially for underrepresented minorities who are discovering different career opportunities. My commitment to this cause has led me to contribute over 80 hours of volunteering at organizations aligned with my passions, with most of that time spent mentoring at my local public high school.
